MINISTRY OF HEALTH INFORMATION REGARDING COVID19 VACCINE

The Ministry of Health is finalising a rollout plan, and all the logistics that involves, for the disability sector. I am on a working group providing feedback to the Ministry on the the issues related to vaccine delivery for those with high and complex needs.

The vaccine is not compulsory but will be offered to everyone in New Zealand over the age of 16yrs. Disabled people will be offered the vaccine as part of Group 2 and Group 3 tranches (more info in the documents linked below). Informed Choice is crucial to decision making about the vaccine. Supported Decision Making should be used as far as possible so your loved one can understand to the best of their capacity what is involved, benefits, risks, etc.

Here is some Ministry of Health information about getting the vaccine https://www.complexcaregroup.org.nz/covid-19-getting-your-covid-19-vaccine-what-to-expect/ and here is info about the vaccine strategy https://www.complexcaregroup.org.nz/covid-19-protecting-aotearoa/
