THE PEOPLE’S GROUP – AN ONLINE COVID FORUM FOR FAMILIES/WHANAU AND DISABLED PEOPLE

This email is from Adri Isbister, Deputy Director General Disability, Ministry of Health:

Kia ora koutou

I’m pleased to invite you to participate in ‘The People’s Group’: regular information sessions on COVID-19 preparedness for disabled people, whānau and carers.

These sessions will be convened especially for disabled people and their families, whānau, aiga and carers to provide the latest practical information and guidance on preparing and responding to COVID-19. The Ministry and guests will let you know what’s happening in the COVID-19 space relevant to disabled people and may seek your views from time to time.

The sessions are open to everyone. NZSL interpreters will attend whenever possible. Sessions will be recorded, and you are welcome to share the invitation or meeting recordings with your networks. In time we may look to publish session recordings online.

We will begin delivering sessions fortnightly over Microsoft Teams. Anyone can join a Teams meeting – no software or an MS Teams account is needed. We can investigate other platforms in the future.

Happening alongside these sessions are meetings of disability sector leaders. Represented by senior members of the disability system, the Sector Leaders’ Group supports system-wide cooperation on COVID-19 system preparedness response on behalf of the disability community. You will hear about developments at these meetings, in our sessions together as The People’s group.
