VisAble Child to Parent Violence and Abuse Survey Report

VisAble recently conducted a survey regarding Child to Parent Violence and Abuse.  The results are distressing but not surprising to many in the disability sector including of course parents themselves.  You can access the Summary of the report here

Key findings include:

  • 92% of parents experience physical violence.
  • 81% report the violence began before adolescence.
  • 1 in 3 parent/caregivers have had to leave work or reduce their hours.
  • 75% live in fear

Today there was a 7 minute RNZ interview of Lee Tempest who runs the Child to Parent Violence and Abuse initiative at VisAble, available here Child to Parent Violence and Abuse – Breaking the stigma | RNZ

And VisAble run an online parent’s support group on the first Monday evening of each month from 7 till 8.30pm.   For more information please contact Lee.Tempest@visable.co.nz
