About Young Carers NZ

Young Carers NZ is a support network providing information, recognition, community navigation, leadership, learning, support, and an online community space for children and young people in Aotearoa who assist family members who are frail, unwell, and/or have health conditions or disabilities.

Purpose of the Group

The purpose of the Group is to provide leadership and guidance to plan, develop, improve, and support sharing of resources, programmes, and advice for young carers across Aotearoa. Its members include current or previous young carers who want to play a part in seeing young carers supported better in New Zealand. They will assist Young Carers NZ to:

  • Identify information, advice, and support needs for young carers in NZ.
  • Provide feedback and advice about young carer concerns, needs, or issues.
  • Help determine the strategic direction of Young Carers NZ including raising awareness of young caring.
  • Advise about young carer projects, programmes, resources, research, messages, and partnerships.
  • Help to guide social media, web, and other promotional avenues for YCNZ.
  • Share their views and experiences to raise awareness of young caring (if they are comfortable about this).
  • Contribute to agreed projects and resources for young carers using their own experiences, stories, contacts, talents and skills.
