FAMILIES VIRTUAL ZOOM GATHERINGS

As agreed at the last Zoom meeting we are now holding these meetings once per month instead of once per week. The next Zoom gathering is Thursday 3rd September 11.30am till 1pm. Our speaker will be Paula Tesoriero, Disability Rights Commissioner, Human Rights Commission. Paula will discuss disability rights particularly from a COVID19 lockdown perspective. Issues Paula will specifically address include:

• The rights of persons with disabilities in NZ during Alert Levels 4, 3 and 2
• The potential future mandatory wearing of masks (this has now been mandated for those using public transport for Alert Level 2 and higher)
• The NZ Bill of Rights Act and the applicability of this during COVID19
• The rights of persons with disabilities beyond the scope of COVID19 – particularly as specified under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
• The progress NZ is making in implementing the UNCRPD
